Troubleshoot your card reader in 4 steps

Often we find that the below steps resolve many of the issues barbers face with their card reader. Try them.

STEP ONE: SET UP YOUR CARD READER

STEP TWO: CHARGE & POWER CYCLE YOUR READER

  • Check for physical damage to the reader.
  • Ensure the reader is charged by plugging it into a wall outlet. Note: keep your reader charged at all times. We recommend plugging it up when you're not cutting or overnight, whichever is easiest for you.
  • Allow the unit to charge for 30 minutes and attempt to turn it on by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
  • If the status lights do not turn on after the power button is pushed once, try a different power outlet to charge the device.
  • Use a paperclip/safety pin to reset the device using the reset button located at the back of the reader, near the USB port. Wait a couple of minutes and attempt to power on the reader again.

STEP THREE: UPDATE THE APP ON YOUR DEVICE

  • Ensure theCut app is up-to-date.
  • Go to App Store and search theCut.
  • Go into theCut's app page where you should see either “Open” or “Update”. If it says “Update”, press that to ensure you’re on the latest version.
  • Ensure the Card Reader is up-to-date. If there is an update available for the reader, you will be prompted to update when you attempt to connect the reader.
  • Close theCut app and reopen.
  • Press the Reset button on the back of the reader using a paperclip/safety pin.
  • A successful reset is indicated by the Reader’s lights turning back on and beeping 3 times.
