Modernizing Men's Grooming

When a potential client opens theCut, they’re looking for someone they can trust with their look and their money.

If you're a new barber (or just new to theCut), getting noticed might feel like a challenge, especially without any reviews or photos.

But here's the good news: with the right tools and a few small tweaks, you can stand out from day one. This guide walks you through how to make your profile stand out and turn casual scrollers into loyal clients.

First Impressions Matter—Start With Strong Photos

Photos are often the first thing clients see. Think of them as your digital portfolio. Clean, high-quality images immediately convey professionalism and provide clients with visual proof of your skills.

Here’s how to make your photo gallery stand out:

  • Use natural lighting or ring lights to avoid shadows
  • Show a mix of styles, textures, and angles
  • Keep backgrounds clean and distraction-free
  • Edit lightly—enhance, don’t filter
  • Show your actual work, not stock photos

Pro tip: Refresh your gallery regularly to show your most recent work. Need a visual guide? Watch this quick video for tips on photo quality and composition.

Make Getting Reviews A Priority

Reviews are one of the biggest trust signals on your profile. But if you’re new to theCut, you’ll start with zero.

Here’s how to change that:

  • Make sure your clients are booking through theCut. Clients can’t leave a review unless the appointment was confirmed and completed in-app.
  • At the end of their appointment, ask them to leave a review.
  • Show gratitude for their time. Be sure to thank your clients after they’ve left a review. You can even take it a step further by offering them a discount or small service add-on as a gesture of appreciation.

If you forget to ask your client to leave a review you can use the in-app messaging feature to ask them. You can also use the Client Blast feature to ask all of your clients at once to leave you a review.

Use Pricing (and Offers) to Your Advantage

Your pricing tells clients what to expect, and it plays a role in how they choose a barber.

As a new barber, consider offering limited-time discounts to attract customers. You can do this directly in the app and turn it off once you’ve built up your reviews and reputation.

Even if you don’t discount, make sure your pricing is competitive, easy to understand, and clearly reflects your value.

Set a Profile Pic That Speaks for You

Your profile photo shows up in Search results—so choose one that’s sharp, clean, and representative of your brand.

Having a clear profile picture that shows your face is helpful for first-time clients - especially if you work in a shop with many barbers.

Clients may not know your name yet, but they’ll remember your face. A strong visual makes it easier to spot you in the shop, reinforces your professionalism, and makes the new client experience less awkward overall.

Pro tip: Avoid group shots or blurry selfies. Keep it simple, well-lit, and authentic to your vibe.

Be Available When Others Aren’t

Looking for a way to cut through the noise? Try offering premium hours.

Early mornings, late nights, and holiday time slots are in high demand, but not many barbers offer them. If you’re open to working during these windows, you’ll likely stand out as one of the only options.

Best of all, you can charge a premium rate for those appointments.

Pro tip: Enable “Open Early” or “Open Late” in your schedule so you appear in filters when clients are searching for those hours.

Accept Payments to Show Up in More Searches

“Accepts Payments” is one of the most frequently used search filters on theCut. If you don’t have Payments turned on, you might not appear when clients are searching.

Enable payments through the app, which allows clients to book, pay, and tip—all in one seamless process. It’s easier for them, and more professional for you.

Let Your Bio Tell a Story

Your bio is a quick way to show clients what you’re all about. Don’t skip this section—it’s your chance to build a connection before they even meet you.

What to include in your bio:

  • How long you’ve been cutting
  • The types of services or hair you specialize in
  • Anything unique—certifications, shop details, even celebrity clients (if it fits your brand)
  • Your vibe: Are you fast and efficient? Big on details? Family-friendly? Let it show.

Pro tip: Keep it short and real. A few solid lines go a long way.

Build Trust Before Clients Sit in Your Chair

Standing out on theCut isn’t about being flashy—it’s about being credible and prepared. Clients notice the details: photos, reputation, accessibility, availability, and expertise - it all adds up to a potential new booking.

Take a few minutes to refresh your profile:

  • Add or update your photos
  • Turn on payments
  • Try out premium hours
  • Personalize your bio
  • Start asking for reviews

Because the more intentional you are with your profile, the easier it is for clients to click “Book.”
